The First course in the series, Technical Excellence 101: New Technician Intensive, is designed to quickly and efficiently educate technicians with minimal to moderate experience and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to complete real-world job site tasks successfully.

What You Will Learn – New Technician Intensive

The New Technician Intensive covers the broad spectrum of knowledge and skills required to begin a successful career in the technology integration industry. Participants will receive instruction on all topics related to the deployment, verification, and maintenance of cabled infrastructure commonly required to support integrated systems, both residential and commercial, including communications (data & telecom), audiovisual, security, and more.

Learners will be introduced to the basics of electricity, construction, documentation, tools, and cable characteristics, as well as the general work performed by a technician during the installation of the premises wiring (also known as the prewire) and trim-out phases of a project.

Throughout this comprehensive learning, participants will perform scenario-based activities related to common situations which occur on real world projects. These activities, in conjunction with classroom instruction, are designed to enhance the learning experience and support the development of critical job skills modern integration companies are seeking. During the program, under the guidance and instruction of seasoned integrators, learners will utilize job documentation and industry standards to perform cable installation, termination, and testing in a lab that emulates residential new construction and retrofit environments.

Upon completion of the program, participants should be prepared to complete the tasks commonly assigned to an infrastructure technician safely and efficiently while under supervision and then continue learning and advancing in the industry.

Course materials, including textbooks and lab guides, as well as all necessary tools, will be provided. However, participants are welcome to bring their personal tools to use when performing lab activities if they wish.

Flights: Air travelers should fly into Indianapolis International Airport (IND) on Sunday, November 15th. The class will begin early on the following Monday morning. All departing flights are on Thursday, November 19th evening, or Friday, November 20th morning. The training concludes on Thursday at 5:00 PM, and we will have a group dinner on Thursday evening.
