Who Should Attend?
New to moderately experienced technicians (6 months to 3 years)

What You Will Learn – Networking & Integration Intensive

HTSA’s hands-on Technical Excellence Education Program covers the broad spectrum of knowledge and skills required to advance in a career in the technology integration industry. Participants will receive instruction on all topics related to the deployment, verification, and maintenance of various technologies commonly required to support the integration and control of subsystems typically incorporated in residential projects including network hardware, control systems, security, lighting, power conditioning and management, and more.

Learners will be introduced to the basics of IP networks and common network devices, communication protocols, control systems and interfaces, basic programming techniques and best practices, lighting systems, security systems, and power management systems as well as the general work performed by a technician during the installation and programming of various subsystems. This course also includes instruction on the system commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance procedures which are commonly required when supporting integration projects.

Throughout this comprehensive learning, participants will perform scenario-based activities related to common situations which occur on real world projects. These activities, in conjunction with classroom instruction, are designed to enhance the learning experience and support the development of critical job skills modern integration companies are seeking. During the program, under the guidance and instruction of seasoned integrators, learners will utilize job documentation and industry standards to perform the configuration of a network router, switch, and access point, connect and program a basic control system with multiple interfaces, connect various sensor types to a security panel, troubleshoot/verify an HDMI handshake process, and perform final commissioning procedures to verify system functionality in a lab that emulates a residential project environment.

Upon completion of the program, participants should be prepared to complete the tasks commonly associated with the deployment of integrated systems safely and efficiently with minimal supervision, while continuing to learn and advance their career in the industry.

This course serves as the second part of a two-part program meant to prepare a new technician for a leadership position. The prior course covers additional information on audiovisual technologies as well as project management and equipment installation procedures typically followed in residential projects. Once a learner completes the entire program, with the support of the instructors and course materials such as the detailed, easy-to-follow textbook and lab guide, HTSA recommends taking the CEDIA Integrated Systems Technician Certification.
