HTSA Predicts Black Friday’s Top 5 Sellers

Survey of the group’s 62 members shows Blu-ray and VUDU will be hot sellers this holiday season

Chester Springs, PA—November 26, 2008—A survey of the 62 independent retailers of consumer of the Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA) asked, “What are the top five products that you expect will sell well on Black Friday?” The most common answers, reflective of popular items in showrooms across the country, were:
  1. Sony Model #550 1080p Blu-ray Player with BD Live - Despite reports of slow sales for Blu-ray, HTSA members on the front lines of consumer electronics retailing think that Black Friday will be a big day for this high-definition format. One exciting feature that will generate interest this holiday season is BD Live. It allows access to the internet from your HD player enabling a host of extras like downloadable ringtones, games and even updated movie trailers for upcoming films.
  2. VUDU XL Movie Server - The VUDU XL Movie Server offers a database of several thousand high-definition movies and shows that can be bought, downloaded and stored in the set-top box. It requires a high-speed internet connection. It is one of only three true 1080p sources available for 1080p capable televisions. HTSA survey respondents say that VUDU is growing in popularity for people interested in HD content.
  3. B&W Zeppelin iPod Dock - This award winning iPod speaker uncovers a new degree of sound quality for the iconic mp3 player. Its reasonable price, unique design, and transportability have made it popular with audiophiles everywhere.
  4. Pioneer Kuro Plasma TV - This high-end HDTV boasts the highest quality picture available, made possible by five times the contrast of previous generation plasma displays. It is now also available in white and beige for a more unique look in the living room.
  5. Sonos Digital Music Systems - This system distributes music wirelessly all over the house and outdoors. The high quality networking of the Sonos system eliminates delays from zone to zone, doesn’t require any destructive rewiring, and can be operated from all over the house, not just at a central controller. HTSA members add that it’s simple to use and expand.
